Human Resources Management Association of Chicago Leaders Honored as “Women in Innovation” by French American Chamber of Commerce

FACC 2016

May 20, 2016 (CHICAGO) -- The French American Chamber of Commerce (FACC) Chicago recognized the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago (HRMAC) and its leaders -- M. Bernadette Patton, president and CEO, and Michelle McGovern, chair of the board of directors -- as the 2016 honorees at its annual Nuit des Etoiles gala, which capped off Chicago’s French Innovation Week. Themed “Women in Innovation,” the event celebrated the local women and organizations that contribute significantly to innovation in their field.

Juan-Luis Goujon, president of the board of FACC and president and CEO of BPI group, nominated Patton and McGovern as the Women in Innovation honorees. “Innovation is about more than just technology. True innovation is about the talent within your organization,” he said. “Through their work with HRMAC members, Bernadette and Michelle focus on that every day and under their direction, HRMAC has become a leader in fostering innovative human capital development in Chicago. We are pleased to honor them for their vison and achievements.”

About the honorees:

  • M. Bernadette Patton has been in her leadership role at HRMAC since 1999. In her 16-year tenure, HRMAC strengthened its membership penetration throughout the region, doubled the program offerings with innovative topics and formats, diversified its product portfolio to engage emerging leaders, partnered with public and private organizations to grow Chicago companies and talent, and consistently engaged more than 200 volunteers annually.

  • In addition to her role as board chair, Michelle McGovern is the director of human resources and operations at the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Prior to joining ACS, Michelle held leadership positions for HR at Mesirow Financial, General Growth Properties and Claire’s Boutiques. Michelle has over 20 years of experience with acquisitions, employee engagement strategies and developing innovative employee benefit and coaching strategies.

In his nomination, Goujon cited HRMAC’s deep history and contributions to the community. The association, which is currently celebrating its 100th year, provides more than 7,000 HR professionals from more than 700 organizations with the resources they need to grow their talent and guide their companies through changing times. Its members represent organizations of all sizes from every business sector whether local, national or global, public, private, for-profit or non-profit.

In addition to recognizing HRMAC, the event honored two individuals for their commitment to innovation: Sophie Miquel-Kergoat, principal research scientist at Wrigley USA, and Lisa H. Ruiz, Latin America area head, regulatory affairs at AbbVie Inc.
