CHICAGO (June 15, 2018) – BPI group, global experts in leadership, talent, and career transition, today released its latest Executive Employment Trends Report, detailing executive hiring trends in the first quarter of 2018. The report offers visibility into the current executive job market with analyses of the average length of an executive job search and the various factors involved, such as base salary, education level, and age. The findings of the report are based on a nationwide survey of BPI group’s Executive Advisory Services (EAS) clients who began their job searches from Q4 2016 through Q1 2018.
BPI group reported that its EAS clients landed new roles in an average of 5.1 months, as compared to the national average executive job search length of 5.9 months. Those with a base salary greater than $250,000 landed new roles in an average of 5.2 months this quarter, and 75 percent reported landing salaries that were equal to or better than their previous position.
In addition, the report found a downward trend in new business startups among EAS clients, from 18% last year to 11% this year. In addition, there were significant differences year-over-year in terms of age groups: a 17% drop in those ages 51-60 seeking new roles, an 11% increase in those ages 41-50, and a 7% increase in those 31-40 seeking new positions.
“These findings are consistent with two overall national trends,” said Steve Spires, Managing Director, Career Services, at BPI group. “Older executives are staying in the traditional workforce longer, and younger executives are moving around much more frequently.”
Susan G. Gallagher, BPI group U.S. President & Chief Executive Officer, added, “The sustained demand for talent is reflected in the shortening of the job-search length and the downward trend in new business startups among our EAS clients. Regardless of these trends and record-low unemployment, we’re continuing to see a steady flow of senior executives in transition.”
